Jody Rein picture

Jody has long been  known throughout the book publishing industry for her integrity and tenacity, as well as for her editorial and branding skills and her savvy in spotting and selling engaging, bestselling, award-winning books.  Prior to founding the Jody Rein Books, Inc. literary agency, she was an executive editor with Bantam, Doubleday, Dell, and Morrow/Avon in New York.  She has ghostwritten several books, and has taught at university-level courses and scores of conferences.

She has represented such bestselling projects as Pulitzer Prize-winner Mark Obmascik’s The Big Year, which became a major feature film starring Jack Black, Owen Wilson and Steve Martin;  8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter by Bruce Cameron, which became the mega-hit  TV series, and the internationally sold and acclaimed bestseller Skeletons on the Zahara by Dean H. King. Jody is a member of the Association of Authors’ Representatives and The Authors Guild.

Jody is also expert in the intersection of self and traditional publishing, and, through JRB’s Author Planet Press imprint, has facilitated the self-publishing of several client titles. From her earliest days as an editor she scouted and re-published self-published and small press books. As an agent, she obtained more than a million dollars in advances for the self-published authors whose books she has sold to traditional houses.

Jody loves working in traditional publishing, where she believes the high standards protect both writers and readers. But she doesn’t believe there’s one right path to publication.
